ด้วยสหภาพยุโรป (EU) ได้มีประกาศ Commission Regulation (EC) No 333/2007 of 28 March 2007 laying down the methods of sampling and analysis for the official control of the levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, inorganic tin, 3-MCPD and benzo(a)pyrene in foodstuffs ตีพิมพ์ใน EU Official Journal L 88 Volume 29 เมื่อวันที่ 29 มีนาคม 2550 ว่าด้วยการกำหนดวิธีการสุ่มตรวจและวิธีการตรวจวิเคราะห์ในการตรวจสอบการปนเปื้อนสารตะกั่ว แคดเมี่ยม ปรอท ดีบุก 3-MCPD และเบนโซ (เอ) ไพรีน ที่ตกค้างในสินค้าอาหารเพื่อการบริโภค

เมื่อวันที่ 30 ธันวาคม 2549 คณะกรรมาธิการยุโรปได้ตีพิมพ์ประกาศกฏระเบียบ Regulation (EC) No 1924/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 20 December 2006 on nutrition and health claims made on foods ใน EU Official Journal L 404 Volume 9 เพื่อตราใช้เป็นกฏหมายแล้วอย่างเป็นทางการ
